Cat Apolinar Vintage is a collective ensemble of my past 15 years. This archive is more like an album of my travels which I now have began to release including the iconic and rare to the odd and sometimes ugly. This shop holds style and substance.
I have always been anchored towards the unique beauty, oddly awesome quality that vintage clothing offers.
Texas born, New York raised, now based in Los Angeles I live and work surrounded by rolling racks full of one-of-a-kind vintage treasures from all over the world. My collection includes everything from Chanel jewelry and accessories to the rarest of Harley Davidson t-shirts.
Each piece has been handpicked to find the most distinctive, defiant and sometimes questionable but always unique look.
I worked hard and attended two of the most prestigious fashion schools in the world which has given me a unique insight.
The fashion trends of yesterday are becoming even more and more relevant today, and I have been lucky to have traveled and seen enough of the world and have made some incredible finds along the way.
I have always loved fashion and I have great respect for the styles of our past. Fashion fundamentally changed in the 1960’s, reflecting the cultures changes and challenges. Our race to reach the moon inspired a Space Age style of sharp lines and futuristic fabrics while our presence in Vietnam abroad showed us a Military trend in the streets back home.
The fashions of the 70’s without a doubt, reflected the music of both disco and rock & roll. Polyester both made it possible for designer draping to become accessible to the everyday masses for daily wear, while 50/50 concert tees are still collectables today.
I am continuously on 'the hunt' or that one particular piece, be it the rarest runway in pristine condition or that perfectly paper thin t-shirt.
The first Harley shirt I bought was in a town called Sturgis, South Dakota. Little did I know at the time the history and biker tradition deep rooted there, the home of the infamous “Sturgis Motorcycle Rally”. Harley Davidson Way has immortalized the American biker present and past for over 80 years. Here I found a worn-in, distressed, previously loved t-shirt of a biker couple and pitchfork, a parody of the infamous American painting by Grant Wood of a farmer and his wife standing affront their modest Midwestern house. (See Picture Below: ‘Forged in our Souls’ Harley Davidson T-Shirt based off of the 1930 painting American Gothic by Grant Wood)
I saw it and instantly fell in love with it – to this day it is still one of my most cherished possessions.
Moving on, through Dallas I got my first Chanel Bag, a black and white logo camera bag crafted in lambskin leather with the house’s signature ‘CC’ logo, gold plated hardware, zipper tassel and chain-link hardware. (Photo Below)
Each has earned the respect of proving timeless with a sentimental quality. My vintage collection, as an investment grows more and more timeless and valuable. Vintage Christian Dior, Yves Saint Laurent & Chanel are highly sought after, hard to find and will never be made again. Wearing them at any event gives you pride knowing you are one of the few in the world who has them. Chanel 5 gold ear rings are timeless as well as seen on the always fashionable Sex & the City.
